Costa Rica is blessed with a great number of ecological attractions. Among the most unique and picturesque are the mangrove canals of Damas Island. This pristine habitat, being the second biggest swamp in Central America, fulfills an important role as an ecosystem vital to Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity. It is not uncommon to spot caimans, boa constrictors, herons, sandpiper, egrets and over 100 species of local and migrating birds. You also may get the chance to see the white-face monkeys up close and personal, or even see the rare silky anteater, all from the comfort of your boat.
Located 20 minutes from most Manuel Antonio hotels, the Damas Island mangroves allow you to travel calm waterways with the dramatic backdrop of the spectacular Fila Chonta Mountain Range.
